Engelbrecht Kruger Attorneys - Top Apps Invade User Privacy By Collecting and Sharing Personal Data, New Report Finds

A look at the hidden side of the data economy - a huge surveillance industry has built up around us

A new report, called Out of Control: How Consumers Are Exploited by the Online Advertising Industry, published by the Norwegian Consumer Council (NCC), looks at the hidden side of the data economy and its findings are alarming.

As we move around on the internet and in the real world, we are being continually tracked and profiled for the purpose of showing targeted advertising.

In the report, a demonstration is provided on how every time we use our phones, a large number of shadowy entities thatare virtually unknown to consumers are receiving personal data about our interests, habits, and behaviour.

The NCC report shows that a huge surveillance industry has built up around us. We need new laws that create strong privacy rights.

We would suggest that the apps mentioned in the report should be used with caution.
